 WHO IS KAYODE K0D3D?

Kayode Olarenwaju Aliyu is a boy. My A.K.A is K0D3D as in CODED. I hail from Kwara Nigeria, born into a family of 3. Second born, First son. Lived almost all my life in Lagos. I did my elementary, primary and part of my secondary school in Modupe Memorial School, Magodo. Where I was a boarding student. Then I moved to Command Day Secondary School Ikeja to complete my education where I gained my SSCE certificate. Currently Studying Petroleum Engineering at the Federal University Of Petroleum Resources. Effurum. In Delta State where am pursing my B.Sc.

WHAT DOES PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART MEAN TO YOU

Photography is one of those medium I use to express myself, Art on the other hand is what I feel, think and reflect on. And photography, poetry and graphics help in exhibiting those thoughts.

On the long run, these two started paying one or two petty bills for me, so its also a source of income for me which am not actually relying on for now because am still grooming myself.

WHEN AND HOW DID YOU DISCOVER PHOTOGRAPHY AND HOW DID IT BECOME A PASSION?

I developed my first interest in photography when I was tired of searching for pictures that didn’t exist to do my graphics work.

It was never part of the agenda, it wasn’t even listed in my dream but something came up. I was doing well in graphics until I wanted to step my game up, I gave myself new challenges, I wanted to create stunning graphics manipulations and I needed the help of photography. So I started searching for pictures that match with my imaginations, I couldn’t find. And even if I eventually did find one, it will cost a lil more And I was only just a student. Imagine I spend $25 to buy each stock images I used to express myself and I wasn’t earning a dime from it, Imagine how much will be left for me to use and feed from my allowance. So I couldn’t cope and my stories were just there lying down waiting to be told. So I picked up the unprepared for challenge and decided to take these pictures myself so that I could use them to do my graphics manipulations. That was how I picked Interest in photography. Only to enter inside the photography world and I was like “WOW! This looks very much like somewhere I can live”.

After two shoots, I fell in love totally and that’s how it became a passion.

DESCRIBE YOUR FORM OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Anything that is built around a story, Art, a pinch of deep (sometimes more) and a trail of life in it is what my form of photography looks like. I love to add these components together before creating an image. So that when people see it, they can reflect on it.

Sometimes, I love abstract, and one of the things I love about it is that everyone can tell their own story from their own view of it.

AND WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR ART (INSPIRATION)

I do have a Muse tho. LOL

But most times I am inspired by Imaginations close to impossibilities. Sometimes I am inspired by Stories, events, good pictures and reflections, then I create sometimes beautiful out of them.

Sometimes, Poetry helps a lot in creating deep things, and what inspire my poem is the reflections on my mood, people, emotions. My MAMA sometimes can be a big influence on my inspiration too.

So basically, am inspired by things around me.

NUDE PHOTOGRAPHY? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF IT AND HOW DO YOU DIFFERENTIATE IT FROM PORNOGRAPHY?

LMAOO. WOW!

Actually, lemme quickly tell you a fact before I answer that. In South Africa, there’s a black tribe that believes only a virgin or someone clean and pure in the heart to come out Naked. In fact, 2010 World cup in south Africa, these girls came out naked as form of tourist view.

So to me, to say a lot about a person, to see their true beauty, to know what flaws they’re made of, look directly into their soul. And the body without clothes on, or make up on is the physical representation of the soul.

Therefore, I take nude photography to tell a lot about the human soul. And I don’t even take it as nude, I take it as the deep part of my photography.

Meanwhile it’s 1,000km plus 1km different from pornography. LMAO!

Erm I think pornography is about sex, sex, sex? Yh? Mine is not even about Sex! It about reflections and like I said, all my pictures come with a story. You can even tell from some of the frames without words.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF PHOTOGRAPHY HERE IN NIGERIA, AND DOES THE ART PAY THE BILL

Photography in Nigeria is growing every day, The Industry is now gaining massive respect, and people now know that it ain’t beans talk anymore. And even the players are stepping their games up each day to beat the international market. So Photography in Nigeria is growing very fast.

YES! Art pay bills if you know what you’re doing and if you’re creative. People want to see what they’ve never seen before, people wants to be swept off their feet by what they see; people want to get joy and satisfaction from what they see. So if your art can do this, definitely, they will go extra mile to appreciate it. And imagine you can cub a certain number of the population in Nigeria through your art. So do the maths yourself.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BRAND IN COUPLE OF YEARS

Hhhhm, I won’t be where I am today in few years to come, my brand would have travelled across seas, oceans and mountains. That’s my vision for the brand in couple of years. So help me God!

WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO WORK WITH?

Anybody. I can shoot anything as long as it feels alright.

But then, I would really love to work with Nigerian Model Angellina Phillips, Have seen her works; she has got the potential I want to create a touch of art. Her fearless body, her physicals, you can even tell a lot of her glimpse from the way she talks. Yea Angellina Phillips It is!

YOUR ROLE MODEL IN PHOTOGRAPHY

They are many tho but to mention a few. Hakeem Salam, Kelechi Amadi Obi, Tope Horpload, Adore etc. I love them for different purposes, some because of their compositions, some because of their lightning, some because of the way tell their story.

WHAT’S YOUR BEST PHOTOSHOOT AND HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR YOUR SHOOTS

I can’t really figure out my best photoshoot for now. I need to rethink It to give an answer.

How I prepare for my shoot? When a concept pops up, I try to do a lil research and see how I can make it better, then I call a team that is ready to work, plan further on it and we set to go. I do pray before I set out for my shoot tho. Important lesson from mama.

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A BAD DAY AS A PHOTOGRAPHER AND HOW DO YOU STAY POSITIVE.

Yes, many times. Sometimes it might be your gadget that got a fault, sometimes it might be the client that’s giving you the wahala, sometimes I might even be the problem, maybe mood swing or something something. LOL but as long as you know where you’re going, what you wanna achieve, the reason you choose photography in the first place and the reason you decided to stay with it, It brings my confidence and positive vibes back.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 5 PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS

  1. Have a story/concept before you start shooting
  2. Be very interactive with your subject (model) and the team.
  3. Know your camera settings
  4. Be very conversant with light
  5. Always try to get 80% – 90% of the image from the camera and 10% – 15% from photoshop.

FINALLY, YOU LOVE POLITICS (APC SUPPORTER) HOW DOES THAT AFFECT YOUR CRAFT

LOL! Love keh?

I can’t even go into politics; I just have passion for some people there and happen to work with a lot of APC members.  So basically, am a creative consultant and PR to a group in APC.

Tho am a supporter of the political group but I don’t love politics to that extent.
